The Performing Arts Centre

The much anticipated Phase 3 of the Creamery Square Development Project has begun!

Scheduled for completion in 2011 the Performing Arts facilities have been carefully planned to attract a broad range of activities including theatrical and musical productions, a dinner theatre, film presentations, art exhibits, corporate events, music, theatre and art camps, festivals, and other special events. Visitors to the Performing Arts Centre will have the opportunity to experience the Farmers' Market, and participate in boating on Tatamagouche Bay and the Waugh River, along with adventures on the Trans Canada Trail.

The Main Theatre will seat up to 160 guests and will feature a traditional proscenium stage and an optional thrust stage. The historic Ice House, which was moved to its new foundation in the fall of 2009 will act as a smaller, more intimate event venue as well as the foyer for the Main Theatre.

The performance stage and backstage areas have been professionally designed, with close attention being paid to technical requirements of sound, lighting, acoustics etc., along with attractive and comfortable backstage areas for use of performers and stage crew.

Outside, a waterfront stage and various courtyards will be certain to attract both performers and visitors. Carefully landscaped, and featuring retained specimen trees and bushes, these will enhance the enjoyment of the peaceful, natural beauty that surrounds Creamery Square.

Further input from local stakeholders with specific technical and professional expertise and interest has been sought and received, and an Open House meeting for the general public has also resulted in many valuable comments and suggestions. Further to these meetings, a number of excellent additional facilities such as bike lock-ups, paved sidewalk access and improved signage are being planned.

From local performances from the North Shore Performing Arts Society, and the Tatamagouche Area Singers, through film festivals and art shows, to big name artists, this new facility will allow Tatamagouche and the North Shore to re-establish the historic precedence it once had as represented by the Nova Scotia Festival of Arts and Betty Murray's Musical & Theatrical productions.
