Centre for the Arts
Scheduled for construction beginning in early fall 2011, the much anticipated Centre for the Arts has been carefully planned to attract a broad range of activities. This includes theatrical and musical productions, dinner theatre, film presentations, art exhibits, corporate events, music, theatre and art camps, festivals, and other special events.
The Main Theatre will seat up to 160 guests and will feature a traditional proscenium stage and an optional thrust stage. The historic Ice House, which was moved to its new foundation in the fall of 2009, will act as a smaller, more intimate event venue as well as the foyer for the Main Theatre.
The performance stage and backstage areas have been professionally designed, with close attention being paid to technical requirements of sound, lighting, acoustics etc., along with attractive and comfortable backstage areas for use of performers and stage crew.
Outside, a Waterfront Stage and various courtyards will be certain to attract both performers and visitors. Carefully landscaped, and featuring retained specimen trees and bushes, these will enhance the enjoyment of the peaceful, natural beauty that surrounds Creamery Square. The summer of 2011 will see both musical and theatrical productions using these outdoor venues. Check out our Events page for further details.
From local performances by the North Shore Performing Arts Society, and the Tatamagouche Area Singers, through film festivals and art shows, to big name artists, this new facility will allow Tatamagouche and the North Shore to re-establish the historic precedence it once had as represented by the Nova Scotia Festival of Arts and Betty Murray's Musical & Theatrical productions.
